Family Holidays in Saalbach – Our Favourite Tips for Families
A summer holiday in Saalbach Hinterglemm is packed with adventure. Exciting themed trails, water playgrounds, family-friendly hikes, and a wide range of biking activities ensure that children of all ages – from toddlers to teenagers – will never be bored.
Since 1971, we have been welcoming families from all over the world to Pension Apartments Norika. Over the years, we have been asked the same question time and again: “Which attractions are the best for our children?” This family guide is based on those conversations and the experiences of our guests, bringing together our favourite recommendations for an unforgettable family holiday in Saalbach Hinterglemm.

Play, Water and Adventure –
The Best Experiences for Little Explorers
Ideal for children aged approximately 2 to 8 years
When travelling with younger children, a variety of fun and engaging attractions is essential. In Saalbach Hinterglemm, nature, play, and outdoor adventure come together to create unforgettable family experiences.
One of the absolute highlights is Montelino’s Adventure Trail on Kohlmais Mountain. Together with the clown Montelino, children solve exciting puzzles, discover lovingly designed play stations, and enjoy a hike that flies by. At the end of the trail, the large water playground at the top station is the perfect place to cool off on a warm summer’s day.
Another family favourite is the Käpt’n Hook Adventure Pool. With thrilling water slides, a wild-water channel, and a dedicated children’s area, it offers hours of fun for kids and adults alike.
If your little ones still have energy to burn, the Motor Skills Trail, located directly opposite Pension Apartments Norika, is well worth a visit. Its varied activity stations encourage balance, coordination, and agility through play—and parents usually enjoy joining in as well.
Our host’s tip: Many families head straight to the Kohlmais cable car after enjoying our generous breakfast buffet, combine Montelino’s Adventure Trail with a relaxing afternoon at the Käpt’n Hook Adventure Pool, and make the most of the day. Thanks to our central location, many of Saalbach Hinterglemm’s top family attractions are within easy walking distance, so you can leave your car parked throughout your stay.
Family Hikes That Children Will Love
Ideal for children aged approximately 4 to 12 years
Hiking is much more fun for children when there is plenty to discover along the way. That’s why the themed adventure trails in Saalbach Hinterglemm are among our guests’ favourite family attractions.
On Kodok’s Adventure Trail at Reiterkogel Mountain, young explorers help the mischievous goblin Kodok recover his stolen magical items. Exciting puzzles, interactive play stations, and fun challenges turn an ordinary hike into a memorable adventure.
Another highlight is the Kids Hiking Challenge. Along six selected hiking trails, children collect stamps in their hiking pass and can earn a bronze, silver, or gold medal depending on how many routes they complete. It is a fun way to keep little hikers motivated and make every walk feel like an exciting mission.
Our host’s tip: We’re always happy to recommend the best family hike during breakfast or at reception, taking your children’s ages and the current weather into account. Often, these personal recommendations are what make a family holiday especially relaxing and enjoyable.

Hinterglemm End of the Valley –
Four Family Highlights in One Day
Ideal for children aged approximately 5 to 15 years
The Hinterglemm End of the Valley is one of our favourite family destinations. Several of Saalbach Hinterglemm’s top attractions are located within easy walking distance of each other, making it the perfect place for a full day of family adventures.
The Treetop Trail (Baumzipfelweg) and the spectacular Golden Gate Bridge of the Alps offer breathtaking views and an unforgettable experience high above the forest floor. Just a short walk away, Devil’s Water (Teufelswasser) invites children to splash, explore, climb, and play among streams, water features, and interactive activity stations. Families looking for even more excitement will enjoy the High Ropes Park Saalbach Hinterglemm, which offers a variety of courses suitable for different age groups.
A special highlight—especially for younger children—is the leisurely ride on the End-of-the-Valley Train to Lindlingalm. From there, all of these attractions are easily accessible on foot.
Our host’s tip: In our experience, it’s worth starting early in the day. That way, you’ll have plenty of time to enjoy the Treetop Trail, Devil’s Water, a relaxed lunch or snack at Lindlingalm, and—if there’s still energy left—the High Ropes Park before heading back.
