Pension Norika and Bäume für Morgen – Plant Trees Together in Austria

Pension Norika is a member of Bäume für Morgen – an Austrian initiative for local reforestation. Guests who choose to skip their daily room cleaning help plant a tree in Austria: for each night without housekeeping, Pension Norika donates €5, and a tree is planted.

How it works – your contribution as a guest

In every room and apartment you will find a door hanger made from recycled material. If you would like to skip housekeeping for the day, simply hang it on the outside of your door.

  1. Door hanger on the outside = no housekeeping for that day
  2. Pension Norika donates €5 for each skipped cleaning night
  3. Every €5 results in one tree being planted in Austria
  4. The total is reported to Bäume für Morgen monthly

This way you actively help reforest woodland areas in Austria – with no effort, directly from your room.

Why does Pension Norika do this?

Saalbach sits in the heart of the Alps. The mountains, forests and alpine meadows surrounding the village are not just a backdrop – they are the reason guests travel here from across Europe to ski, bike, hike and recharge.

For Brigitta Rainer, who has run Pension Norika since 2007, joining Bäume für Morgen is a natural step: a business that lives from the natural environment should give something back. Pension Norika has therefore chosen to be part of this initiative – and guests can join in directly.

What is Bäume für Morgen?

Bäume für Morgen (Trees for Tomorrow) is a non-profit Austrian organisation. The initiative focuses on local reforestation in Austria – rather than sending donations abroad, trees are planted directly in Austria, together with local residents and regional partners.

Contributions go exclusively into planting projects in Austria – in Salzburg, Tyrol, Upper Austria, Vienna, Vorarlberg and other federal states. All projects are documented and traceable on the initiative’s website.

Bäume für Morgen has been featured on ORF Salzburg, Radio Salzburg and in other Austrian media. → More at baeumefuermorgen.at

Sustainability in Saalbach – what else we do

Membership in Bäume für Morgen is one part of a broader approach. Pension Norika has several practical measures in place:

  • Electric car charging station: Directly at the house, free of charge for guests
  • E-bike charging: In the lockable bike garage
  • Central location: 90 metres from the village centre, 250 metres from the Schattberg Xpress – lifts, the village and trails are all reachable on foot, no shuttle needed
  • Regional produce: The breakfast buffet uses Austrian and regional ingredients

The central location of the pension is itself a sustainability factor: guests who can walk to the lifts, trails and village centre do not need a car for everyday life during their holiday – in winter just as much as in summer.
